Performance FormatsConcertsScheduled for the first Friday of each month except June, July and August. Some concerts also have an opening act. Beginning in January, 2008 concerts will be scheduled on the first Saturday of each month, except June, July and August.Coffee House and Open Mic'Scheduled for the third Friday of each month except June, July, August, November and December. In November, the Coffee House performance and Open Mic' is scheduled on the second Friday of the month.Coffee houses begin with opener at 8:00 PM. We take a 15 minute break and then the feature performer takes the show up until about 9:45 PM. Open Mic' performers then have the stage until closing time at 10:30. Open Mic' sign-up is at the door when we open at 7:30; sorry, no early sign up. First come, first served. There are 8 open mic' slots available, each 5 minutes long, which is usually time for one song. All kinds of performers are welcome, not just singers and musicians, not just folk and acoustic. Once a year we usually have an "All Open Mic' Nite". This format features 16 slots at 8 minutes each (enough time for 2 songs/poems/other). We pride ourselves on having a warm, quiet and attentive Open Mic' audience, good for novices and veterans alike. Read about our "Stars of the Open Mic" book. |
Audience Guidelines - General CourtesyPlease follow these guidelines for everyone's comfort and enjoyment: Pictures and Recording: Photography and digital photography are prohibited unless you have prior approval from the performer. If you have approval, please limit your actions so that everyone can enjoy the show. Audio recording is prohibited. Video recording is prohibited unless you have prior approval from the performer AND THE CLUB. Electronics: Please remember to turn your cell phones and beepers off. Admittance: Sorry, we can't let anyone in early: our doors open at 7:30. Clapping: Please wait for the performer's cue before clapping - a momentary silence can be an important device in an acoustic music performance and sometimes comes before the end the song. Talking: Please limit conversation during performances and please speak softly. The unique thing about a coffee house environment is that the performer can transport the audience out of everyday reality in the moment if we're really in the experience with them. Please feel free to ask a volunteer if you need assistance. |
